Detasseling
Every year, Original Colanese Products needs 70-85 workers on a daily basis for about a month. The work season typically lasts from July 10th to August 10th. Corn detasseling involves pulling the tassels off the top of the corn. Most of the work is performed while riding carriers, however, it is sometimes easier to walk.
A normal work day starts with pick-up at the New Carlisle Library, the Rolling Prairie Elm., or the community park in Hudson Lake ( south entrance) all at 6:00am sharp, central (slow) time. Transportation to the cornfield is provided by our bus or our 15 passenger vans. Each worker is payed their base hourly wage during transportation to and from the corn fields. Few other jobs offer this perk which of course raises your hourly wage listed below considerably! There is no set time to end the day, however we are usually on our way back to the New Carlisle library by 3pm cst. As a courtesy, we also drop off at the elementary in Rolling Prairie and the park in Hudson Lake.
Your hourly base salary will be as follows:
14 or 15 years old with no experience - $8.25/hr
15 with experience or 16 with no experience - $9.00/hr
17 years and older - $10.00/hr
Workers 17 and younger can earn an extra $1.00/hr with good attendance. Workers 18 and older are given a $2.00/hr bonus based on their age.

Rouging
We need 25- 30 workers for this. In rouging you walk through the corn with hoes, chopping out certain corn stalks. You must be a good walker and the taller you are, the easier it is for you to see. Rouging starts and ends a week or two ahead of detasseling. All workers who rouge also detassel when not rouging. Rouging has higher travel pay than detasseling, so the pay is even higher!
